They’re not on the market until October, but already they’re looking like an absolute hit.

The i:wing from Koblenz based Bionic Motion takes Leonardo da Vinci’s principle of looking for inspiration in nature to create an innovative room ventilation system.

Created by former Formula One engineer Robert Spillner (who looks suspiciously like Marcel Wanders)  the i:wing is in essence  a pair of artificial bird wings that through their “flapping” generate a pleasing breeze.

On account of the construction that allows the i:wing to rotate through 180 degrees and so create an all-round ventilation.

We’re really taken with i:wing and can perfectly imagine them in our office, or indeed any medium sized office.

Our flat being sadly a little too small to allow i:wing to function properly.

But if you have the space …

One of the products that  most appealed to us ICFF was the Magino Stool by Karim Rashid for Umbra.

But over the weekend we found something even better: Felt Stool by Can Onart

Coroflot is an online portal for designers and other creative types, a place where young designers can set-up there portfolio. There are some truly wonderful designs to be found, including Felt stool.

We love chairs where you can store your reading material under the seat … there is nothing more practical. And where Karim Rashid’s stool was good the advantage of Can Onart’s work is on the one hand that several books can be stored at the same time – and on the other you can flip it over and use it as book storage next to your bed or sofa.

Built from 8 layers of industrial gray felt and 2 layers of veneer “Felt Stool” is not only practical and versatile, but we think also looks fantastic.
