Wooden Origami Speakers by Jonathan Gomez Whitney

These outrageous plywood speakers by Minneapolis based designer Jonathan Gomez Whitney are so new,  they don’t even have a name.

Made from 1/4″ ply with Birch veneer, which Whitney scores and folds similarly to origami paper folding. We haven’t heard them in action yet but if we believe the designer – and why shouldn’t we – “The cone shape and the density of the wood make for a rich mid range sound and a strong projection.”

An usual mix of old gramophone familiarity and cold, foreboding 1960s science fiction styling, that for us works like a dream.

Lovely.
